Comprehensive Eye Exam

For adults and children, a comprehensive eye examination can detect the best vision and early signs of eye and/or health conditions. Periodic eye examinations are an important part of preventive health care since many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms. For example, early detection of glaucoma will be better for glaucoma management.

At 20/20 Eye Wellness Optometry we will conduct a personalize eye examination based on your individual needs and concerns. Preliminary tests can identify several aspect of your vision such as depth perception, color vision, eye muscle movements, and peripheral vision. Automated visual field testing is a great tool for the early detection of glaucoma and other eye diseases.

Your eye doctor will then have a discussion with you about your medical history and any occupational or environmental conditions that may affect your vision. Using our visual acuity system, your eye doctor will take measurements as to how clear each of your eyes is seeing. Refraction is then used to determine the appropriate lens power to provide you with the clearest vision. Your eye doctor will either use a phoropter or a hand held lighted instrument called a retinoscope. Using a slit lamp, your eye doctor can conduct an internal evaluation of your eye including the lens, retina, and posterior section. Often this will include a procedure called dialation, where pharmaceutical solution is placed in your eye to enlarge your pupils. An external examination would include an evaluation of the cornea, eyelids, conjunctiva and surrounding eye tissue. Depending on your eye doctor’s professional judgment other tests may also be included in your comprehensive eye examination.
